Bucharest, February 6, 2009 - "A new Constitution is necessary, but if we keep on thinking in the terms of a "dedicated" Constitution, then we do nothing but perpetuate this extremely worthless thinking type", believes Renate Weber, MEP, Head of the Romanian Liberal Delegation to EP. The statement was made on Friday, February 6, 2009, during the conference "Romania's Constitution - A Necessary Change?", organized by "Ovidiu Sincai" Institute in Bucharest.

The Liberal MEP has criticised both the 1991 Constitution, as well as the amendments adopted in 2003.
"The 1991 Constitution and the amended form from 2003 did not take under consideration,in fact, what was important for the Romanian people, for its democratic evolution following an important regime change, but were done quickly, under time pressure, when a Parliamentary majority existed - one that reminds me of the existing one today, I must admit".
In the PNL' representative opinion, a Constitution drafting or amending process should stretch over a period of several years.
