"At the European Parliament, Rosia Montana Gold Corporation together with Liberal MEP Adina Valean organized a pseudo-debate about 'sustainable and responsible mining.' Why pseudo? Because no opponent of the Rosia Montana mining project was invited to attend - not even Romanian MEPs who are known to have a clear stance against the project! I don't know why," Weber wrote on her Facebook account.
The Liberal MEP went to the debate, where she was in for another unpleasant surprise: she was not allowed to speak. "Although I had politely asked Mrs. Valean to let me speak (I even sent her a note at the beginning of the debate, promising to speak no more than three minutes) and although there were still 20 minutes to go, Mrs. Valean simply closed the seminar and allowed no one to speak."
In retort, Valean said Weber's reaction is unfriendly. "We did not vote the Rosia Montanta project today, we did not issue any law, we just talked about it. The topic was mining in Europe and Rosia Montanta was only a case study," Valean told Realitatea.net.
